Ashlyn's Birth and Our Stay in the Hospital

First of all... Being a parent is AMAZING! We have experienced so many laughs, as well as tears, the past month with Ashlyn. I was hoping to get on here a lot sooner to update everyone, but free time is scarce right now as I'm sure you all know! So, here goes...

I was scheduled to be induced at 7:30 on the morning of March 5th. When we got there, they walked us to our room and immediately began. They first put an internal heartrate monitor on Ashlyn's head, and while they were "in there" decided to go ahead and break my water. About an hour later, I began feeling contractions, so our wonderful nurse Bonnie decided to go ahead and get me set up for my epidural. I felt no pain whatsoever for the rest of the day!

After receiving the epidural, my blood pressure immediately dropped and they couldn't keep it stable for any long period of time. By 4:00 that afternoon, I had only dialated to 4cm, so Dr. George decided it would be best for me and the baby to have a cesarean section. After they pulled my baby girl out at 5:22pm, the doctor informed me that Ashlyn was wedged in the birth canal, so it wouldn't have done us any good for me to have tried to have her vaginally.

It's so hard to believe that our beautiful girl is already a month old! Enjoy the pictures...

Here is my brother, James, acting goofy and making sure the mirror is positioned "just right" for delivery. We had many guests in the room that morning and got plenty of laughs in.

One of Ashlyn's very first pictures.

Finally getting to see her for the first time. It was a very emotional moment for me.

So happy for her to finally be here! No more nausea... Yay!

The first thing I noticed about her was the dimple in her chin... Just like Mommy!

One of my favorite pictures. Daddy bonding with his new baby girl.

Look at those spread apart toes... So cute!

Ashlyn had lots of people waiting for her.

Matt with Dr. George after the surgery. She is sooo great!

Daddy tackled the first poopy diaper since I was stuck in the bed.

Our first family self portrait... Wow, what a day!

She looks just like her Daddy.

I love this picture... He's so proud!

Mommy can't stop taking pictures!

Ready to go see my home!

The stork finally delivered!

Ashlyn Joy Smith was born at 5:22 p.m. on Thursday, March 5th, 2009. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 19 inches in length.

I just wanted to update this real quick and add a picture for everyone to see our beautiful baby girl. I will add plenty of pictures and more details about the delivery in a few days. Love to all!
